Nebraska’s tight end, Arik Gilbert, has encountered legal trouble once again, being arrested in Lumpkin County, Ga., marking his second arrest in just three weeks. The charges this time include smash-and-grab burglary and obstruction of officers, as per the arrest records.

This comes after his initial arrest on Aug. 29 in Lancaster County, Nebraska, where he was suspected of burglary, found in possession of about $1,600 worth of items from a local liquor and vape shop in Lincoln, Neb.

Gilbert, a 21-year-old tight end, started his college journey at LSU in 2020 and then played for Georgia in the subsequent year after taking a break due to personal issues. Following the last season, he transferred to Nebraska, awaiting an NCAA waiver to become eligible to play this season, though he hasn’t seen the field yet.

In response to Gilbert’s initial arrest, head coach Matt Rhule acknowledged the challenges Gilbert is facing off the field. Rhule mentioned, “When we took Arik, we knew we had a good group of people that were going to help him through some of the issues he’s dealing with in his life.” He also highlighted Gilbert’s struggles during the camp and his efforts to overcome them.

Throughout his college career, Gilbert has played in 11 games, amassing 37 catches for 384 yards and three touchdowns, with the majority of his performance coming during his time at LSU in 2020.
