Israel has officially declared a ‘state of war’ following a fierce rocket attack originating from the blockaded Gaza Strip. Hamas militants claimed responsibility for what they referred to as their “first strike,” launching over 5,000 rockets toward Israel on a morning that should have been a festive holiday. Alarms blared loudly across the country, creating a scene of chaos and concern.

Israeli defense forces also reported a suspected infiltration attempt by Hamas militants, a group designated as terrorists by Israel. Visual evidence showed the use of paragliders in the attack.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office has announced that he will convene a meeting with top security officials to address the situation.

This latest outbreak of violence represents a significant escalation in regional tensions, reminiscent of recent geopolitical conflicts, such as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

“A number of terrorists have infiltrated into Israeli territory from the Gaza Strip. Residents in the area surrounding the Gaza Strip have been asked to stay in their homes,” stated the Israel Defense Forces on social media.

Sirens continue to blare in Jerusalem and throughout Israel, with reports of multiple rocket impacts across the country.

The armed wing of Hamas declared the initiation of “Operation Al-Aqsa Flood” and claimed responsibility for firing over 5,000 rockets in what they referred to as the “first strike” lasting 20 minutes.

“We decided to put an end to all the crimes of the occupation (Israel), their time for rampaging without being held accountable is over,” the group stated.

Tragically, an elderly Israeli woman lost her life due to a direct rocket hit, and 15 others sustained injuries, according to emergency services.

The Israeli defense forces have responded, stating, “Israelis across the country, on Shabbat and the holiday of Simchat Torah, woke up to sirens sounding and Hamas firing rockets at them from Gaza this morning. We will defend ourselves.”

As tensions continue to rise in the region, the situation remains fluid and is being closely monitored by both Israeli authorities and the international community.
