Julia Fox’s upcoming memoir, Down the Drain, is a rollercoaster of a life story that may leave readers exclaiming, “I can’t believe this is my life.” The 33-year-old actress takes us on a wild journey through her tumultuous youth in 2000s Manhattan, featuring phases as a runaway, artist, dominatrix, and provocateur. Her story paints a picture of a chaotic upbringing in downtown New York, marked by two overdose incidents, abusive relationships since her mid-teens, and a brief stint in a psychiatric ward. And all of this happened before she burst onto the indie film scene with a role in the hit movie Uncut Gems and briefly dated the controversial rapper Kanye West.

In her memoir, Fox candidly admits to being a “titanic pain in the arse” for a significant part of her life. She intentionally acted out, displaying entitlement and selfishness to prevent people from feeling sorry for her. She explains, “I was a jerk – entitled and selfish. But I feel like you have to be when you’re in survival mode.”

While her survival mode remains active, Fox believes it has transformed into a more manageable form. Since her acting debut in 2019’s Uncut Gems, her public persona has been larger than life and characterized by unruliness. However, in her interview, she appears quieter and reflective, a far cry from her on-screen persona.

Fox describes writing her memoir as a purging process, an attempt to make sense of her tumultuous life. She hopes it will help her regain control of her reputation, which became distorted during her brief and highly publicized relationship with Kanye West in 2022.

Despite her chaotic upbringing, Fox is determined to create a different environment for her two-year-old son, Valentino, far removed from her own troubled past. Her memoir sheds light on her challenging childhood, marked by an absent mother, a volatile and abusive father, and a premature introduction to adult situations at a young age.

The book also touches on her early struggles with addiction, self-esteem issues, and a complicated relationship with food. Fox’s journey through life is one of extremes, where she often compares her current struggles to her past experiences with substance abuse.

Fox’s memoir also reveals instances of abuse and exploitation she encountered during her youth, often at the hands of older men. She describes how, as a young girl, she didn’t fully understand the predatory behavior she was subjected to, as it was normalized by societal standards at the time.

In a surprising turn of events, Fox opens up about her time as a dominatrix, portraying it as an experience that helped her regain a sense of self-worth and taught her crucial skills in reading people and performing.

Julia Fox’s memoir offers readers a raw and unfiltered look into her life, filled with moments of turmoil, survival, and self-discovery. It’s a story of resilience, transformation, and the quest for a better future, both for herself and her son.

While her relationship with Kanye West may have temporarily thrust her into the spotlight, Fox is adamant that it doesn’t define her. She reminds the world that she was an accomplished artist and actress before that chapter of her life, and she has much more to offer in the world of entertainment.

Despite her challenging past, Julia Fox is now committed to being the best version of herself and providing her son with a brighter future. As she reflects on her life, she recognizes that while it may have been an uphill battle, she has accomplished her mission, and her memoir is a testament to her journey from a troubled past to an unconventional form of stardom.
