ESPN’s College GameDay Built by The Home Depot will kick off the 2023 college football season on Saturday, September 2, in Charlotte, North Carolina, before the South Carolina Gamecocks face the North Carolina Tar Heels in the Duke’s Mayo Classic. The three-hour show (9 a.m. ET) will be live from Romare Bearden Park in uptown Charlotte to kick off GameDay’s 37th season and 30th year of road shows, which have become synonymous with college football Saturdays over the past three decades.

“We are excited to return to Charlotte for the start of the 2023 college football season,” said Lee Fitting, ESPN senior coordinating producer, college football. “The city has a great passion for college football, and we know GameDay fans will be treated to a memorable experience.”

Charlotte is no stranger to College GameDay, having hosted the show 12 times previously, including in 2017 for the Duke’s Mayo Classic. The city is also home to Bank of America Stadium, the home of the Carolina Panthers and the site of the 2019 College Football Playoff National Championship Game.

The Gamecocks and Tar Heels are two of the most storied programs in college football, and their rivalry is one of the oldest in the sport. The two teams have met 110 times, with South Carolina holding a 60-46-4 advantage. The game is expected to be a sellout, and it is sure to be a raucous atmosphere.
