In a delightful Halloween treat, DreamWorks’ beloved character, Donkey, is rolling out the welcome mat for fans of the animated classic, Shrek. Thanks to Airbnb, you can soon spend two nights in the cozy confines of Shrek’s Swamp, from October 27 to 29, 2023.
Nestled in the Scottish Highlands, Shrek’s Swamp, with its mud-laden grounds and moss-covered surroundings, provides an enchanting escape. This charming hideaway is ideal for enjoying crisp autumn days and starry nights just like an ogre would. The accommodations, located in a live-in tree stump, offer a studio layout with two beds and one bathroom.
Despite the “Danger,” “Stay Out,” and “Beware Ogre” signs leading to the Swamp house, think of it as Shrek’s way of inviting you in. It’s a snug spot to get away from the hustle and bustle of village life and immerse yourself in the beauty of nature.
“I’m absolutely delighted to invite you in for a fairytale stay,” Donkey shared in the Airbnb listing.
During your stay in the Swamp, you’ll have the chance to stay up late, swap stories, and dine like an ogre because, as Donkey puts it, “in the morning, Donkey’s making waffles!”
This marks the first time that fans will be welcomed into Shrek’s humble abode. True to ogre style, bathroom facilities will be located off-site, approximately 20 meters away from Shrek’s Swamp.
“Shrek’s Swamp is lovely. Just beautiful. The perfect place to entertain guests,” Donkey remarked. “You know what I like about it? Everything. The overgrown landscaping, the modest interiors, the nice boulders, all of it. I can’t wait for guests to experience this muddy slice of paradise for themselves.”
It’s worth noting that staying at Shrek’s Swamp won’t cost you a dime—it’s a nod to the priceless refuge Shrek has provided to fairytale creatures of all kinds. However, interested guests must abide by a few simple rules.
To be eligible for a stay at Shrek’s Swamp, guests must have an active Airbnb profile with a good track record on the platform, possess a government-issued ID, and be at least 5 years of age, among other terms and conditions. Since it’s not a contest, guests are responsible for their own travel to and from Scotland.
The immensely popular Shrek franchise featured Mike Myers as the voice of Shrek, Eddie Murphy as Donkey, and Cameron Diaz as Princess Fiona.
To honor cherished childhood memories, Airbnb will make a one-time donation to HopScotch Children’s Charity, an organization that provides respite breaks for Scotland’s vulnerable and disadvantaged children through nurturing and dynamic holiday trips.
Fans and ogre enthusiasts can request to book their stay at Shrek’s Swamp starting from October 13 at 6 p.m. BST at airbnb.com/shrek.
Shrek’s Swamp isn’t the only famous movie mansion available for stays. Earlier this year, Airbnb reopened the doors to the Barbie Dream House in Malibu ahead of the iconic doll’s July 21 feature film release.
In contrast to Shrek’s unique stay, visitors to Barbie’s multilevel pink home enjoyed a disco dance floor, a roller rink, a gym, a bar and grill, and an infinity pool adorned with floats spelling out Ken’s name—again, at no cost, because, as the story goes, Ken’s thing is the beach, not math!
